Cricket World Cup 2019: Virat Kohli fined for aggressive conduct during India’s victory over Afghanistan

India captain Virat Kohli has been fine 25 per cent of his match fee after approaching umpire Aleem Dar in an aggressive manner during India's narrow victory over Afghanistan in the Cricket World Cup.

The 30-year-old was sanctioned for an over-egged appeal for an lbw and was thus punished with one demerit point, taking his tally to two.

Kohli was found guilty of breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct in Southampton and Article 2.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "excessive appealing during an international match".

Kohli accepted the sanction after the match meaning no formal hearing was required.

India's blushes were saved against Afghanistan thanks to some superb bowling by Jasprit Bumrah and a final over hat-trick from Mohammed Shami, securing victory by just 11 years.
