Christie quickly into his stride in windswept Adelaide

Linford Christie's season got off to a successful start in Adelaide yesterday, writes Mike Rowbottom. Britain's world and Olympic 100 metres champion, who has been training in Australia for the last three months, won at the Optus Grand Prix in a time of 10.48sec, running into a headwind of two metres per second.

Christie races again in Perth tomorrow before travelling to Tokyo for his first indoor meeting on 5 February. "Every year I like to think I train a little harder," he said. "My priority this year is to retain my world title. Everything else takes second place."
