JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ, of Mexico, administered a savage beating to Hector Camacho to retain his World Boxing Council super-lightweight title in Las Vegas.

The 30-year-old champion won a unanimous decision after subjecting the Puerto Rican challenger to a painful final four rounds, pummelling him around the ring. Camacho's left eye began closing in the eighth and he was cut on the right eye in the ninth. By the 10th round, the right eye was also closing.

'I just couldn't keep Julio off me,' Camacho, also 30, said after Saturday's contest in the basketball arena at the University of Nevada. 'The pressure he kept on me was amazing. I fought with as much courage as I could.'
