Tom McKean, the 1990 European 800m champion, makes his debut for his new club Haringey in the opening Guardian Insurance British League match at Hendon on Sunday.

Phil Banning, a former Great Britain international middle distance runner, has been appointed the Welsh national coach. Banning, a 44-year-old Hampshire physical education teacher, succeeds Malcolm Arnold, who is now Great Britain coach. He will take up his post this summer and be based at the Morfa Stadium in Swansea.
