Kenny Perry yesterday joined the list of American withdrawals from the Open. Perry, winner of this year's Bob Hope Classic, cited family reasons. He joins Hale Irwin, Fuzzy Zoeller, Fred Couples and Tom Lehman on the sidelines.

His withdrawal gave the first reserve, fellow American Don Pooley, a place in the 156-man field at St Andrews. Pooley was beaten in a play- off from the qualifying round at Leven Links. Newcastle professional Michael Archer now becomes first reserve.
