Gardening Update: Plant sale

THE National Council for the Conservation of Plants and Gardens has invited specialist nurseries and holders of national collections of plants in Kent to bring plants to a big sale tomorrow (11am-5pm) at Great Maytham Hall, Rolvenden, Cranbrook.

The hall was Frances Hodgson Burnett's home for nine years at the turn of the century and its overgrown walled garden provided the inspiration for her most famous book, The Secret Garden. When she left, the garden was remodelled by Lutyens, who added a long terrace and steps on the south side of the house. The garden will be open tomorrow (admission pounds 1). Further information from Jean Talboys (0622 880349).
