Cuttings: Chinese veg

MORE THAN 35,000 different plants grow in the gardens and grounds of Kirkley Hall College at Ponteland, Northumberland. There are Chinese vegetables in the kitchen garden, raised beds of alpines, and a Victorian potting shed with old garden tools and equipment. And in a new sculpture garden, the work of more than 30 young artists is on display. The gardens are open every day from 10am until dusk, admission pounds 1.50.
