Third Kaunda son arrested
(First Edition)
LUSAKA (AP) - Police yesterday arrested a son of the former president, Kenneth Kaunda, in connection with an alleged coup plot. He is the third Kaunda son to be held in the case.
Panji Kaunda, 47, an MP for the opposition United National Independence Party, was held without charge after police searched his farm 500 miles east of Lusaka. Last week, police arrested two other sons of the former president. The Kaunda sons are among at least 25 people rounded up since 4 March, when the government declared a state of emergency in connection with an alleged plan by the opposition party to topple the President, Frederick Chiluba.
