ALGIERS (Reuter) - Algeria plans to try 90 members of the armed forces on charges stemming from suspected links to Muslim fundamentalist guerillas, an Algiers daily paper said. The Defence Ministry could not confirm the report.
Muslim militants, who began attacks when the government cancelled elections that fundamentalists were about to win, have been blamed for killing nearly 200 members of security forces during the past 10 months.
Yesterday the official news agency said that three fundamentalist 'outlaws' died in a shoot-out in north-east Algeria.
