A fast-acting bus driver was hailed for saving a boy in Norwich, Connecticut.

Samantha Call, a school bus driver for six years, grabbed the pupil's jacket stopping him from stepping out in front of a car speeding past the right of the open school bus door on the hard shoulder.

She then blared her horn at the car and watched and waved for the boy to cross safely in front of her bus.

A surveillance video from inside was posted on the Norwich City School District’s Facebook page.

NCSD Transportation Supervisor William Loomis told the school: "Samantha did an outstanding job.

"All of our drivers undergo continuous training so they're prepared to handle situations like this. We hope this video helps everyone to realise the dangers of passing a stopped school bus."

The incident happened at 10.44 am on Friday April 26 on State Route 12.
