Kabul - Rockets rained over the Afghan capital, killing at least 35 people and wounding 98 on the eve of planned talks today between a UN peace envoy and a key factional leader.

President Burhanuddin Rabbani's administration blamed the attack on his opponents, led by the Prime Minister Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and northern warlord General Abdul Rashid Dostum.

Witnesses said 20 people died and several were wounded when rockets struck a bus and a taxi. Last Friday a bombardment killed 45 people. Reuter
