Huge traffic jams, totalling 180 miles, built up in and around Paris as a strike severely disrupted buses, underground trains and the RER express suburban network, Reuter reports from Paris. The strike was called by trade unions protesting against plans to transfer Paris public transport and its financing to regional authorities.
