Moldovans went to the polls yesterday in a plebiscite on independence expected to produce a 'no' vote against nationalist demands for a merger with neighbouring Romania, Reuter reports from Chisinau. The ballot comes a week after pro-independence parties in the ex-Soviet state won parliamentary elections.
