A state security court sentenced an Egyptian businessman to 25 years in prison yesterday after he was found guilty of spying for Israel.

Two Israeli citizens were also sentenced in absentia to 25 years in jail.

The businessman, Tareq Hassan, was arrested in August and charged, along with the two Israelis, with seeking to recruit agents in Egypt, Syria and Lebanon to spy for Israel.

Yesterday's sentencing followed last week's arrest of a dual Israeli-US national for allegedly spying for Israel.
