Kabul shelling kills 18

Kabul - Rebels yesterday shelled the Afghan capital, killing 18 civilians and wounding 14 in a shopping street, witnesses said. One shell crashed into the Shahr-i-Nau district in central Kabul, killing six shoppers; 12 others died in hospital. It was part of a salvo that hit the city as fighting between forces loyal to President Burhanuddin Rabbani and the Taliban Islamic militia intensified. Reuter
