The Ivory Coast's Prime Minister, Alassane Ouattara, who does not recognise the new self-proclaimed President, Henri Konan Bedie, won pledges of loyalty from armed forces chiefs yesterday, Reuter reports from Abidjan. Sources close to the Prime Minister said Mr Ouattara considered there was still a power vacuum after the death on Tuesday of President Felix Houphouet-Boigny.
