Paris - French police detained 13 people in raids on suspected Muslim extremists in Paris and its suburb of Corbeil-Essonne. The swoop was instigated by an investigating judge, Laurence Le Vert, who on Monday ordered two French men of North African origin to be jailed on suspicion of links to the Armed Islamic Group, an Algerian extremist organisation blamed for a wave of bombings in France.
