Pact unearthed

MOSCOW (Reuter) - The original version of the secret 1939 Molotov-Ribbentrop pact between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union has been discovered in Soviet Communist Party files, an aide to President Boris Yeltsin said.

Soviet officials had long said the pact was not in their archives. The agreement between the foreign ministers Vyacheslav Molotov and Joachim von Ribbentrop carved up eastern Europe into Soviet and German spheres of influence and paved the way for the German invasion of Poland.
