The European Union will not punish Ukraine for its role in a gas dispute with Russia that cut off supplies to Europe for days, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said today.

"In our bilateral relations, we are not taking any negative consequences," Barroso told a joint news conference with Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko after the two met for talks.
