CCTV footage shows moment man shoves commuter on to tracks in Prague

Czech police have released CCTV footage of an seemingly bizarre attack that took place in a Prague metro station in an appeal for witnesses.

Officials are looking for the man who allegedly assaulted another passenger at Kobylisy metro station on 6 June.

CCTV footage shows a man sitting down on the escalator to the platform. Another man, the victim, passed him on his way down.

They do not seem to make any contact but, when they reach the platform below, the younger man appears to shove the victim off the platform edge.

The 57-year-old victim, who has not been named, was pulled off the tracks by a group of other passengers. The man sustained multiple injuries and was reportedly incapacitated for weeks.

In a statement on the Czech Police website, spokesman Tomas Hulan said: “The victim considerately passed around the seated man. What happened next is more puzzling.”

He described how the man apparently confronted the victim, who was wearing an orange shirt, shoving him in the chest and causing him to lose balance.

The perpetrator then left the station instead of waiting for the train. He can be seen on camera walking calmly back up the escalator and out of the station.

“Fortunately several young people were able to help the victim back onto the platform before the train arrived,” Mr Hulan said.

Police are searching for the man’s attacker and asking for witnesses to come forward.

So far the crime has been classified as causing bodily harm, which carries a sentence of three years. However, the charge could be extended to grievous bodily harm, which can result in eight years in prison.
