English football fans in China

Peking - English football fans in China may meet their match when they follow the England team to Thursday night's "friendly" international game at the Worker's Stadium.

The Peking authority's tolerance for breaches in public order is rather lower than the 200 England fans will be used to. Drunken people are never seen on Peking's streets, and any inclination to burst into robust song will be more than frowned upon. But Wei Shaohui, spokesman for the Chinese Football Association, said China was not worried. "There will not be policemen around [the fans] when they are not in the stadium," he said.
