The newly-elected Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto, and her coalition allies consolidated their position yesterday by taking power in Pakistan's largest province, Reuter reports from Islamabad.

The new parliament in the richest and most powerful province, Punjab, elected Ms Bhutto's nominee, Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, as chief minister.
