Dingoes put down after mauling girl on Australian beach

Ap

Two dingoes that mauled a three-year-old girl on a beach were caught yesterday and destroyed.

The girl suffered bites to her legs when the wild dogs attacked her after she wandered away from her family on Fraser Island in Queensland on Monday. More than 200 dingoes live on the island, a tourist spot considered one of the last refuges for purebred dingoes.

A nine-year-old boy was killed by dingoes there in 2001, prompting the culling of two dozen dogs and an overhaul of conservation practices.
