Workers enter Fukushima No3 reactor at last

Japanese workers have entered the last of three reactor buildings hit by nuclear fuel meltdowns at the crippled Fukushima plant. The operator, Tokyo Electric, is moving to stabilise a facility that has been leaking radiation for more than two months.

Workers began inspections in the No3 reactor building, which had not been entered since the 11 March earthquake and tsunami triggered fuel meltdowns and a hydrogen explosion that blew off its roof. At the same time, photographs taken moments before the tsunami hit were released.

The two Tepco employees who entered the No3 reactor building on Wednesday were exposed to less than 3 millisieverts of radiation, against a government-set limit of 250 milli-sieverts per worker per year.
