A teenage mother whose baby son died after she allegedly left him at home for a week while she went to stay with friends, is facing 10-years behind bars in a Russian prison.

Viktoria Kuznetsova told her neighbours at the student dormitory where she lived in the city of Rostov, that Egor was being looked after by an aunt.

But after they became suspicious of the 17-year-old's claim, they alerted police

Officers found the boy dead when they arrived at the home on 13 September, showing signs of exhaustion.

As he slowly starved to death, Ms Kuznetsova is said to have posted on VK.com, a social media platform in Russia, that she was “hanging out with Nastya, I’ve dyed my hair black”.

The teenager reportedly gave up her son to an orphanage when he was one month old, but the baby was returned to his mother seven months later.

Her husband, who had been called up for military service when she abandoned her child, is believed to be seeking a divorce.
