Trump interference in Roger Stone case is 'abuse of power' Pelosi says

Donald Trump has been accused of attempting to orchestrate a fresh quid pro quo just a week after being acquitted in his Senate impeachment trial.

This time, the accusations come after the president offered to lift travel restrictions against New Yorkers in exchange for Governor Andrew Cuomo dropping investigations into his tax records.

Mr Trump has also been hit by an unexpected rebuke from his attorney general over the Roger Stone case, with William Barr saying he will not be “bullied” and that the president’s tweeting about an active case makes it difficult for him to do his job.

However, the public rebuttal was a move that ex-Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele warned was “carefully staged” to appease disgruntled Justice Department prosecutors.

Meanwhile, a new book on Mr Trump, Sinking in the Swamp, offers the bizarre detail that the president nurtures an obsession with badgers, regularly plaguing his first chief of staff Reince Preibus with questions about the animals and their characteristics.

An excerpt of the new book said Mr Trump “was never able to shed his affinity for mob‑don lingo”.

The book also said he has mob-like tendencies, including instances in which he would “repeatedly blast his former fixer and attorney, Michael Cohen, for being a snitch and a rat for cooperating with the feds and making him look bad”.

President who rejected super-rich donations headlining $580,600-per-couple Florida fundraiser

Trump is jetting out to Mar-a-Lago this evening where he will attend a Palm Beach fundraiser over the weekend at which the top tickets are going for a whopping $580,600 (£445,640) per couple, according to The Washington Post.

The event is being hosted by Florida billionaire Nelson Peltz, includes speeches, photo opportunities and a steak-and-ice-cream dinner and will be at least the 48th such gathering he has attended since October 2017, according to The Post.

This from the man who, as a candidate in 2016, pledged to reject big money donations and drain the swamp (as recently as yesterday).

“You’ve got to wonder now if the Trump presidency is the continuation of the kind of oligarchy that many people think is taking over in America, or whether or not it is a corrective measure like many people thought it would be,” comments Nick Penniman of pressure group Issue One.

Ranking Armed Forces Committee Republican slams Trump's latest border wall cash grab as unconstitutional

Texas congressman Mac Thornberry, the leading Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, has attacked Trump for planning to divert a further $3.8bn (£2.9bn) in Pentagon funding to pay for his US-Mexico border wall.

"The re-programming announced today is contrary to Congress's constitutional authority, and I believe that it requires Congress to take action. I will be working with my colleagues to determine the appropriate steps to take," he said in a statement responding to the Defense Department's announcement.

"Congress has the constitutional responsibility to determine how defense dollars are spent. We take the Pentagon's recommendations seriously during our deliberations, but the final decisions are contained in the bills passed by Congress and signed into law."

Kamala Harris and Joaquin Castro issue resolution demanding Trump adviser Stephen Miller resign

The California senator and Texas congressman have teamed up to denounce the president's senior adviser on thwarting immigration, issuing a resolution calling him a "white nationalist" and condemning his continued presence in the White House.

This comes after a former Breitbart journalist, Katie McHugh, accused Miller of sending over thousands of white supremacist talking points as inspiration for stories in 2016, which she turned over to the Southern Poverty Law Center in November.

Michael Bloomberg paying Fyre Festival promoters and influencers to make fun of him with memes

The New York billionaire is having a mixed time of it out on the campaign trail.

Yesterday, Trump memorably called him "a 5'4 mass of dead energy" before he hit back with the superb response below:

While his late entry to the Democratic 2020 race meant he missed the debacle that was the Iowa caucus, he has otherwise had to spend lavishly on advertising to get his message across - and face fierce opposition for buying his way into the contest in the process.

He's also being haunted by his stop-and-frisk policy as New York mayor, with local progressive Alexandria Ocasio Cortez the latest to attack him over it and interactions with the public like the following hardly helping:

His social media campaign has at least been interesting - who could forget the meatball tweet? - but the story below, reported by Andrew Naughtie, smacks of desperation indeed.

American children are using Trump's words to bully classmates, report finds

Children across the US are using the president's divisive rhetoric to bully their classmates, a report has found.

The Washington Post reviewed articles throughout Trump's presidency that reference elementary, middle or high school bullying and found students using the president's inflammatory statements, which are often described as racist or xenophobic, to bully.

The newspaper analysed 28,000 articles starting from the beginning of 2016 for its research relating to bullying in the classroom. It found Trump's words, chants at his campaign rallies and even his last name were used by students and staff members to harass other people in more than 300 reported incidents.
