Biden writes poignant message on childhood home in Scranton on Election Day

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden spent election day visiting his childhood home in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

The house is currently occupied by a woman named Anne Kearns. He left a message on the living room wall before leaving.

"From This House to the White House, with the Grace of God," Mr Biden wrote. He also signed and dated the message.

Axios reporter Alexi McCammond captured the moment and shared it on Twitter.

Prior to his hometown visit, Mr Biden attended a mass with his wife, Jill Biden, and his granddaughters, in Wilmington, Delaware.

He also visited the grave site of his son, Beau Biden, who died in 2015 of brain cancer. While there he also visited the graves of his first wife and daughter, who were killed in a car crash in 1972.

Mr Biden has frequently referenced his Pennsylvania upbringing in interviews.

He said that Scranton helped shape his career in public service.

“No matter where I’ve gone in life, I’ve always been led by the values that Scranton instilled in me at a young age — values of hard work, faith and a commitment to the middle class,” Mr Biden said.

A large stage was under construction at the Chase Center in Wilmington, the same place where Mr Biden formally accepted the nomination for the the party's nomination in August.

Mr Biden will be joined by Sen Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff.
