Police bodycam video shows man being rescued from burning car in Texas

Intensity of fire melts parts of equipment on their uniforms

Police bodycam footage shows man being rescued from burning car in Chambers County

Footage showing the moment a man was dragged from a burning wreckage has been released by police.

Braedon Boznango and Carlton Carrington, of Chambers County Sheriff’s Office, dragged the man from the car after it crashed on a state highway south of Winnie, Texas.

“Hurry sir, hurry, he’s in the car,” a bystander can be heard shouting as the officers arrive on the scene. “Can you pull him out? Can you pull him out?” they repeat hurriedly.

The man, whose legs and abdomen had been on fire, was airlifted to a Houston hospital in a critical condition, said the sheriff’s office.

Bodycam video from the two deputies shows them then pulling the unconscious man from the car.

“Both deputies were uninjured during their rescue of this man; however, the intensity of this fire melted parts of their equipment while on their uniforms,” wrote the sheriff’s office, which posted the footage on 18 December.

“Had these deputies not acted quickly, decisively and [with] total disregard for their own safety, the seriously injured man would have perished inside the vehicle,” the sheriff’s office added.
