A baseball fan in Arizona narrowly escaped a 20ft plunge when he tried to catch a ball heading into the stands, less than a week after a father in Texas died in a similar accident.

Keith Carmickle toppled over a barrier after climbing on to a table and leaning forward for the catch during Major League Baseball's All-Star Home Run Derby at Chase Field, Phoenix.

Had it not been for the quick reactions of his brother and other spectators, Mr Carmickle might have suffered the same fate as Shannon Stone, a Texas Rangers fan.

"I thought, I've lived a good life," Mr Carmickle said.
