A quarter of Donald Trump’s transition team is made up of his immediate family.

Mr Trump has filled the 16-member executive committee with his daughter Ivanka, his sons Eric and Donald Junior, and his son-in-law Jared Kushner.

Mike Pence has been appointed as the head of the team as Mr Trump prepares to move into the White House.

Ivanka Trump is a 35-year-old mother-of-three and was at her father’s side speaking at rallies throughout the campaign. She also introduced Mr Trump as the Republican nominee for US president.

Eric Trump is an Executive Vice President of development and acquisitions at the Trump Organisation and founded the Eric Trump Foundation which raises money for a children’s research hospital. He also oversees his father’s 18 golf courses.

Donald Trump Jr is the eldest child and is also an Executive Vice President at The Trump Organization. The 38-year-old was also a guest advisor on The Apprentice.

Mr Kushner, a 35-year-old Harvard graduate, married Ivanka Trump in 2009 and was seen as the architect behind the President-elect's online and social media campaign.

The appointment of Mr Pence as head of the team makes Mr Trump the first incoming president since Jimmy Carter to use his Vice President-elect to run his transition team.

In a statement, Mr Trump said Mr Pence would "build on the initial work" done by his predecessor.

"Together, we will begin the urgent task of rebuilding this nation — specifically jobs, security and opportunity," Mr Trump said.

The transition team is responsible for helping Mr Trump determine his cabinet members, other key positions in the White House and also 1,000 top-level posts in his administration.

The appointments have led to questions being raised about whether Mr Trump would be able to sever ties between his administration and his family business.

He had previously said his children would not follow him into the White House and would run the Trump Organisation instead.
