Oregon Safeway shooting: Suspected gunman walked ‘aisle to aisle’ and killed two in grocery store

At least three people have been killed in a shooting inside a Safeway supermarket in Oregon on Sunday evening, police said.

At a Sunday evening press conference delivered by Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz, the department said that the incident was first reported after 7pm on Sunday evening at The Forum Shopping Center in Bend, located about 130 miles southeast of state capital Salem.

Officials confirmed that the suspected shooter was among the dead, but did not disclose how he died.

According to the police the suspect entered from the back of the shopping centre and initially fired into a Costco parking lot and a Big Lots store.

He then entered the Safeway, sprayed bullets as he “walked aisle to aisle” and shot one person near the west entrance.

The injured individual was taken to Saint Charles hospital and confirmed dead upon arrival, police said.

While there were no injuries reported at the Costco parking lot and the Big Lots store, the suspect shot dead an additional person inside the Safeway.

When officers who responded to the shooting entered the Safeway they found a third individual, believed to be the shooter, dead inside the store.

Another victim who was injured during the shooting was also transported to Saint Charles hospital. That victim, who like the other two has not been identified, was said to be in “good” condition, according to a statement shared on the hospital’s Facebook page.

Police said that officers fired no shots but found the suspected shooter dead with an AR-15 style rifle beside his dead body.

The incident is currently under investigation.

Bend Police asked Monday morning that people in the area continue to avoid the Forum Shopping Center as they continue to conduct their investigation of the scene.
