Social media has reacted with squeals of anguish after footage emerged of an MP apparently picking his ear and putting its contents in his mouth.

The sight, on MPs' first day back in parliament after the election, was spotted and uploaded by an eagle-eyed journalist from the news website BuzzFeed.

It's not clear whether the spotlighted Labour MP, David Anderson, is merely the unfortunate victim of bad timing and camera trickery, or was engaged in something incredibly unhygenic.
