Labour's £3.6m donor Nigel Doughty found dead
Nigel Doughty, the owner of Nottingham Forest Football Club and one of the Labour Party's largest individual donors, has died at the age of 54.
Mr Doughty, who donated £2.25m to Labour's 2010 general election campaign, was found dead yesterday in the gym at his home in Skillington, Lincolnshire. He stepped down as Forest chairman last October after a decade in the job after the sacking of the former England manager Steve McClaren.
Mr Doughty, co-founder of the private equity firm Doughty Hanson, gave a total of £3.6m to Labour, but had not made a donation to the central party since Ed Miliband became leader.
