A man from Haringey, north London, was charged last night with the attempted murder of Detective Sergeant Bob Window, 39, whose hand was severed during a house search. Peter Gilchrist, a warehouseman, will appear before Haringey magistrates today. Surgeons were hopeful that they had saved DS Window's hand.
