ICI plans 'friendly' chemical

ICI is to manufacture 'ozone-benign' chemicals to replace chlorofluorocarbons, which damage the ozone layer. The new products will be used in refrigeration systems in the food industry and in large air- conditioning systems.

Manufacture of the new hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) will begin within weeks at a pounds 4m plant in Widnes, Cheshire.
