Woman 'screamed for help' after getting trapped in London Underground doors

A woman has been seriously injured after being dragged along a London Underground station platform by a Tube train.

One witness said the victim, who was left seriously injured, got her coat and bag stuck in a carriage’s doors as it began to move.

Paramedics treated the victim at the scene in Notting Hill Gate station on Wednesday afternoon, before taking her to a major trauma centre.

The London Ambulance Service said it responded to reports of a “person under a train”.

Fellow passengers feared the woman had died, but British Transport Police officers said they found her alive at the scene and she was then taken to hospital to have her injuries assessed.

Witness Shabana Khan, a PhD student at Imperial College London, said the woman was screaming for help after falling under the train carriage.

“Heard the thud as the train moved, we're all in tears thinking she's died under our feet but she's alive and stuck under the train yelling ‘help’,” she said.

She continued: “They got her bag and coat out from under the door of our carriage, which had got stuck. Everyone tried to stay calm, not have panic attacks, but all of us were in tears."

The Central line tweeted there were severe delays on the entire line "due to an earlier customer incident".

A Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) spokesperson confirmed to The Independent a woman was dragged along the platform, and said inspectors were gathering more evidence to establish what happened.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.
