Saddleworth Moor fire rages in timelapse video
'It’s so hot at the moment so anything that catches doesn’t stop burning'
A video has captured the fire on Saddleworth Moor ripping through the hills above the Peak District town.
Footage taken by amateur photographer Tristan Manchester shows glowing orange flames and smoke covering the sky as the blaze spread throughout the evening.
More than 30 homes were evacuated as the smoke drifted towards residential areas, according to Greater Manchester Police.
“It was pretty scary because it was such a massive fire,” said Mr Manchester. “It definitely looks like it’s coming down the hill towards the houses.
“I’m pretty proud of the video though. It was about two miles away but it looks much closer in the video. It’s so hot at the moment so anything that catches doesn’t stop burning.”
Firefighters have reportedly battled flames up to 20ft high since the fire broke out earlier this week.
Residents have been advised to keep their windows closed despite the hot weather, as billowing smoke continues to cover the countryside.
