Occupy protest camp to break up after 190 days

Anti-capitalist protesters who had been locked in a legal battle over their right to camp in Nottingham's main square will end their protest this evening after more than six months.

In a statement yesterday, the Occupy group said the decision to leave the site in Old Market Square after 190 days was not easy but that lawyers gave them only a 50 to 55 per cent chance of winning the trial, set to start on 30 April.

Nottingham City Council had said the camp posed hygiene and safety issues. Dozens of tents at will be taken down as of 9pm.
