Job opportunities rise but pay flat says research

Job opportunities across the UK have increased in recent weeks, but pay rates have remained flat, according to new research.

Recruitment firm Reed said there was strong demand for staff in professional services and traditional industrial areas, including accountants and engineers.

Employer demand for staff has increased over the past year, with East Midlands and East Anglia showing the strongest growth recently.

Martin Warnes, managing director of reed.co.uk, said: "Demand for skilled, highly-qualified staff has fuelled this month's increase.

"Key job sectors such as insurance and engineering reached the highest levels we have experienced since our job index began 18 months ago.

"In spite of residual concerns over the economy, opportunities for jobseekers are growing again as employers look for the talent they need to support their ambitions for the future."
