Frost and snow as the cold snap continues

More parts of Britain were expected to wake up to snow on Monday morning, with the current cold snap projected to last well into this week.

Areas including the Pennines, the Peak District and North Yorkshire were forecast to receive 3cm (1.2in) of snowfall overnight, increasing to 15cm in some of the most exposed areas, while the whole country is likely to be gripped by freezing temperatures for several days. Elsewhere there may be further heavy rain – exacerbating the severe weather conditions that mean 30 flood warnings are still in place, a week after three people were killed in storms.
