Two in court after homecoming parade disturbance

Two men today denied public order offences in relation to a disturbance at a soldiers' homecoming parade.

Bryan Kelso, 27, and Kevin Carroll, 40, both pleaded not guilty to causing harassment, alarm, or distress, at Luton Magistrates Court.

The charges relate to a disturbance in the town on March 10 during a homecoming parade for the 2nd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment, known as The Poachers, when angry scenes broke out after a group of Muslim extremists brandished placards with slogans including "Butchers of Basra".

Magistrates today set a date for a one-day trial on November 23 for Kelso, of Hartley Road, Luton, and Carroll, of Bollingbroke Road, Luton.

Both men were granted unconditional bail until the trial.
