Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky drew the 23rd game of their chess match in Belgrade, leaving the score unchanged with Fischer leading by 8 wins to 4, requiring two victories to win the match. The game, which lasted 80 moves and 8 hours, provided further evidence that Fischer's insistence on finishing each game in a session is too exhausting. After five hours, he was a pawn ahead with prospects of winning. He then adopted a risky plan, miscalculating badly enough to come close to losing.
