The Industrial Society, an independent body which promotes good industrial relations, has suggested that office managers who receive Christmas gifts of drink, chocolates or other goodies should raffle them for charity. 'If a boss stuffs a Christmas gift into his pocket or briefcase it doesn't go down well,' a spokeswoman said.

The society has sent festive tips to its 12,000 member organisations including ensuring that Christmas cards are bought from a charity and holding fund-raising events.
