Signs emerged at Westminster last night of a possible softening of the Cabinet's strong opposition to sending more troops to Bosnia, writes Patricia Wynn Davies. A reminder from a senior ministerial source that the option had not been ruled out came as it emerged that defence chiefs had reached the point of serious disagreement with Malcolm Rifkind, Secretary of State for Defence, and other Cabinet members.
Military chiefs have lined up behind the call from Lt-General Sir Michael Rose, British UN commander in Bosnia, for an extra battalion.
