Israel's embattled Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, last night survived his first parliamentary test since the resignation of his foreign minister, David Levy, at the weekend. The 1998 budget passed by a comfortable 58-52.
Mr Levy sealed his departure by voting with the opposition.
Mr Netanyahu says he is determined to serve out his full term until November 2000. Few believe he can succeed.
