The seizure of 20 tonnes of cannabis worth pounds 60 million in the Norwegian port of Stavanger sparked a row in Britain last night over customs cutbacks. The drugs were siezed from the Krakow II, a Polish cargo vessel, which arrived from Invergordon. Though officers in Invergordon were suspicious, they were diverted to another ship at Ullapool. Customs and Excise last night said cuts had no bearing on the incident.
