The Hebridean island of Eigg was last night back up for sale after its owner turned down a bid from its inhabitants.
However, islanders said they would continue with their attempts to raise money and end what they see as years of misery at the hands of absentee landlords.
The owner, Marlin Eckhard Maruma, a German artist, is asking for pounds 2m. Another offer was also turned down and the island is now back on the market.
