Prince's art teacher wins job damages

The teacher who claimed she helped Prince Harry cheat in his art A-level exam has been awarded £45,000 in damages for unfair dismissal from Eton College.

Sarah Forsyth won her case against the public school last July after arguing that she had been bullied by Eton's head of art, Ian Burke. During the tribunal she alleged that she was asked to help Harry cheat- a claim rejected by Eton and the Royal Family.

The tribunal criticised Ms Forsyth for secretly recording a conversation with the Prince, saying it was "an abuse of the position of trust in the pupil-teacher relationship". The panel also rejected her claims that she had been instructed to write most of the Prince's "expressive journal", part of his art coursework. .

Eton College said Ms Forsyth's temporary contract had not been renewed because her teaching was poor, but the tribunal concluded that her dismissal was unreasonable. A statement issued on behalf of both Eton and Ms Forsyth said they had agreed an acceptable settlement and the proceedings were now concluded.
