Stella sales jump by nearly 7 per cent in UK
The world's biggest brewing company today said UK sales of Stella Artois were back on track after a near-7 per cent rise in volumes between April and June.
Anheuser-Busch InBev said the launch of lower-strength Stella Artois 4 per cent and a new advertising campaign were factors in the brand's improved market share. Stella's UK resurgence came despite the weak market conditions affecting the rest of its portfolio, which includes Budweiser, Beck's and Hoegaarden.
The brand's volumes grew by 6.6 per cent in the second quarter and by 3.7 per cent in the half-year, but this was not enough to prevent overall UK beer volumes from declining by 3.5 per cent in the three-month period and by 4.8 per cent in the half-year. AB InBev's global sales fell 1.1 per cent in the second quarter but profits still rose 13 per cent to $1.1bn (£664m), helped by sales of stakes in brewing companies.
