EUROPE'S largest plastics recycler, Wavin BV of the Netherlands, has made sails from recycled polythene bags. The company, which produced the sails in collaboration with the manufacturer Hagoort Sails, says the recycled material is considerably cheaper than polyester, the conventional sail material, but unsuitable for racing.
